Mr Taylor and the Board of Trustees are looking at upgrading the landscaping of the school. One area they are looking at is the big fort. Can you please discuss the following questions about the big fort with your parents?
Should Fernside school keep the big fort? Why, Why not?
If it was to be replaced what would you replace it with?
YES, i think we should because, Aroha said to me that when she first came to this school she thought that it wasn't much of a play ground. if we change it, it will make this school look a lot better.

If we were to change it, it will look a lot better if it was plastic in stead of wood because if we paint it people just rip the paint off and plastic you cant do that. it would be better if there were more challenging obstacles for the years 7&8.

I think that the fort should be taken down beacause it looks bad in a newly made erea and it is put in the middle of the school and the wood can rot and break and hurt someone

I dont think fernside school should keep the fort because when I first came I like thought what a old fort and if we change it/ rebuild a new then we new kids come they can look forward to going on the fort when there allowed to.
ReplyDeleteIf we do take it down. We should build a new one, and like could do a fund raiser 4 it get so money to help make it better. And make some other intersting things for the 7/8 so they have something more to do at lunch instead of having to find something to do.

i think it should be knocked down because the people who remember it from when they were kids will have left and so they wont remember it. If it was knocked down then they should replace it with another fort that is better and newer so they wont have to fix it as much

I think we should definately take it down. It looks bad plonked in the middle of the school, with peeling off paint and messy stones at the bottom.
ReplyDeleteI've seen what would replace it and it would look way better. Also the kids would get new, exciting things to play on. The big fort just isn't fun anymore.
There has been so many injuries, trouble and arguments about the big fort. It would be better just to start fresh and get something new.
Why do we even need it?
We should replace it with some different play equipment, like, swings, bars, tunnels, mini forts and climbing stuff. Something fun for all ages. And something challenging for year 8s and 7s.
I think the big fort should be taken down because it is dangerous and mostly only the middle school use it. When I first came to this school people were jumping off the fort and someone could get hurt by doing this. There isnt enough barriers to keep people from falling or jumping.

I think it should be knocked down becauseits getting old and boring and hardly anyone uses it only like year 3 and 4. if we replace it we should put in a bigger and better fort that has more things to do on it like slides and swings because it is sooo boring now.!

i think we should knock it down because it's to o0ld plus it is dangerous because the wood could be rotting and could break at anytime and somebody could get hurt badly while playing on it and if it did get knocked down i think we should have slides etc and use metel or plastic there can be the odd wooden thing but not on the main big parts that way it will only little things that ends up rotting plus with plastic and metel with paint on it it would look alot nicer and i think we need something more interesting challengeing than a fire mans pole and those little kid things.

my mum says that if a child can play on something and be able to imagine that they're somewhere else or that it isn't just a playground,that can effect they're writing and they'll be able to write better stories and if we had a better playground that would be even better.
If it was to be replaced I'd replace it with a newer and better fort with bars and slides and some swings plus some things that're challenging for the younger kids and the older kids so that it isn't boring.

We need some better entertainment so i think it should come down. Even the little kids playground is more fun. We need a playground for all ages so everyone can enjoy it. I'm sure that if you got a new playground it would be very popular because everyone is so bored about the bigger fort. If the new playground is safe and has better places to hide then lunch time would be more fun.

i think we should keep the fort because it is the only old thing left in the school. all the old class rooms are gone and all the old sitting areas, there has to be at least something that reminds us of how fernside used to be.

i think we should knock it down because its getting old, very dangerous and boring. Also no one really uses it, really only the little kids use it for a week or so when they actually are aloud on. And some children have fallen off before because it is not safe. Also it is ugly and doesnt fit in with the new class rooms.

A lot of things have changed so much since I first started school.
ReplyDelete*The library was made MUCH bigger.
*Room4 was built, taking up more of our field
*Room 9 and 10 were built, taking up even more of our field
*The old bars were taken from the bark-base playground and replaced with something else.
*The lunch places were added outside room9&10
*The sand pit and "Friendship bench" were taken away/destroyed and replaced as well.
And that's just the start. The only thing left that I can remember that wasn't changed one bit is the Big Fort. I think we should definity keep it, though it might be best to make it a bit safer. It would be nice to keep something that has been at Fernside for a long time.
If we were going to replace it though, I think we should get a new fort. Maybe one that's safe, yet lots of fun. =)

the bigger fort is like in the heart of the school and the heart being one of our most important things i think it should definatly be knocked down and replaced with sumthing more safe and neater coz right now i fink it looks really messy

I think we should take the big fort down because it is dangerous to the younger kids who play on it. It is also really slippery when wet. It makes the school look old.

i say that we should keep it its a part of fern side and every thing else is gone like the sand pit and even one of the rugby posts the big fort is one of the only thing left and the red hut is cool and if they put a phome pit under it then it will be safe.

i think the fort should be taken down because it looks bad right in the middle of the school, i dont use it any more but i can see how it attracts little kids plus if we took it down we would not be able to have one as high because it would be unsafe which means it is unsafe now. If we took it down we should replace it with a lower bigger but not higher plastic one like the one at rangiora burough

Uhm... Well im kinda on both sides. Yes because its old and the school could use a better thing or playground and its unsafe and we could have alot of injuries and yea its pretty gay and ugly looking!
