Should business owners be allowed into the Civil Defence cordon to retrieve their stock and possessions?
i reckon they should be able to go back into their buildings if they have an official with them. they would need to be able to show that the building that they are going into is theirs. if the can retrieve as much equipment as they can then it would save the insurance companies some money.
ReplyDeleteWell in my opinion I think that public memebers of the CBD should be ALLOWED into the cordened off areas. Maybe with supervision? But i think restraining the public is making them frustrated and agitated. If the protesting human would like to retrieve items i say they should let them do so!
ReplyDeleteI think they should be allowed back into the CBD to grab special possessions and money but they should only be allowed in for two minutes and have someone their to help you. If you try to stop them its just going to make them alot angrier and likely to start a big protest. They might have their licences and credit cards still in a building.
ReplyDeletei think they should because the owners have familys to feed and if they cant keep their bussiness running they are not making any money and the stock in the shops and the files like wills and personal info will be lost and then the councell will spend 100s of dollers getting it all back again.
ReplyDeleteI think they should be allowed back in the central buisness districed because they could have very valuable posetions in the building. A student from the other side of the world might have left there passport in a building and cant get back to their own home until they are allowed in. Plus before they get there some of the demolition workers could have stolen ID, passports or wallets. Some people just need to see if their work is in a alright condition. A authurised person could go in with them just to make sure they dont go into someone else's building incase of looting.
ReplyDeleteI think that they should be allowed to go within the CBD to retrieve their belongings to keep their bussiness's running if the buildings safe. But what if their was another aftershock they could die and that would be another great tragedy for everyone and the blaim would go on the civil defence.

ReplyDeleteI THINK BUSINESSES SHOULD BE ALOUD TO GO AND RECEIVE POSSESSIONS BECAUSE THEIR MIGHT BE MORE LOOTING WITCH WILL LEAVE THEM ALMOST NOTHING. HOWEVER, I THINK PROFESSIONALS SHOULD GO IN THE BUILDING WITH THEM BECAUSE THE BUILDING ARE STILL UNSAFE. I THINK IT WOULD BE UNFAIR IF THEY COULD NOT GO AND RECEIVE POSSESSIONS BECAUSE THEY NEED THEM TO KEEP THEIR BUSINESS GOING FROM A DIFFERENT LOCATION.
ReplyDeleteYes because then they can get some of their possessions and temporarily relocate to another building until they can go into their own building. If they get hurt when they are getting their possesions it is only their problem, not anyone elses.
ReplyDeletei think they should only be allowed to go in to the CBD area with police of army supervision. They should be allowed in because there could be very precious things in their buildings, but they would have to be able to give proof that it is their building. They should only have a little time to get their things because if there was another aftershock their building could fall and kill them. It is not fair that there is so much looting in buildings so the quicker they can get their things out the less looting there will be. so in my opiinion business owners should be allowed at least 10 minutes to get as much as they can.

ReplyDeleteI think they should beacause it's their property and if they can retrieve their possessions they would not try and break in through the tape and uniformed gaurds. They could let in 1-4 people from each business to help carry stuff out and while they are doing that no-one else is allowed in the area. The business owners need money if they can't get insurence and they have familys to feed. If it is left then they will have next to nothing if the looting continues.

I think the people that work in the CBD should be allowed to retreive their belongings. There should be 1 security guard to every person that goes into the CBD to stop the looting. This should happen on certain days so that the retreivers and guards are more organised. I think their should not be a limit on the time spent recovering belongings in the CBD.
ReplyDeleteI think that people should be allowed to go into the CBD to get precious possessions but only for a short time because otherwise it would become unsafe. There should only be allowed to have a couple of people in the building cause otherwise they will get angry and go in there themselves without any supervision which would not be a good thing. They should only be able to get certain things otherwise they would take everything and then othe people have less time to retrieve belongings.

its all right for the demolishon people to go in they obviously want to risk their lives stealing from stricken people already. the people shouldnt go in they should be thank ful for what they still have. i think the government is right for not letting them go in.

I believe that business owners should not get their possessions unless they feel very strongly about it and are willing to risk their lives to go into the buildings or that their building is quite safe to enter in. If they decided they wanted to collect their possessions they would be given a secret time and date that only they and the Civil Defence know. They would then enter with someone from the Civil Defence and they would be given fifteen minutes to get as much stuff as possible.

I think the people should come in if they have their uniforms on. But only people from the CTV building, because they have alot of important forms in there, so then they can work in another building.
ReplyDeleteWell I think the owners who have premises in the Central Business District SHOULD be able to collect items of importance. Imagine having to wait more than a month to get items that workers might have left in the building from the initial shock of the earthquake. Wallets, identity cards, personal details, computers and other objects are lying in the buildings, and these people still don’t have the items which can be prone to looting. I do however think that during the process for accumulating possessions there should be a uniformed official from Civil Defence checking if they are the actual owners and if inside the buildings have limited time to get out. They should be allowed to get items because if they gather stock then the business can relocate and start getting money to the workers who now have no work and no money coming in. Also business owners will have peace of mind if they see their building left unscathed from the quake and bring something positive into this negative time!

I am sitting on the fence for this question. I understand that business owners are frustrated over not being able to free their possessions. Without them it isn't easy to relocate and start again. If they do decide to let people in the cordons a set time should be put in place. But I also get that parts of the CBD are still unsafe. If another strong aftershock takes place it would be a big worry! At one time or another something will have to happen to the belongings! They either get taken out or demolished!!
ReplyDeleteI am sitting on the fence because some of the business owners can get into their buildings while other peoples businesses would be unsafe to enter, and even if they got into their buildings there would be little left for them to salvage. But the people whose businesses are still standing it would be safer to enter and there would be more to salvage because it wouldn’t be crushed. It is the business owners lively hood to put themselves at risk to collect there belongings not the Civil Defences.

possessions. I think this because the business owners need to pay bills and provide for their families and should be able to try to get back to normal.If their possessions are undamaged I see no reason why they should not be allowed in
to retrieve them.I think they should have a time
limit for access but put their own lives at risk.
I completely agree with Rose and Erika I'm not sure because it has been one month scince the quake and by now the buissnes would surely be thinking about relocating to keep their clients and would need to get paperwork and computers out then agian it would be duifficult for the police and army to identify who actually owned a buissnes and who were looting plus the risk of buildings collapseing while people are retriving belongings so I'm not really sure
ReplyDeleteI’m sitting on the fence because I think business owners should have the choice weather they want to go into the civil defense cordon to retrieve their possessions because a lot of people need all the money they can get at the moment but if the did it would be at their risk it would be unfair if some were allowed in and others weren’t, but if another one where to happen a lot of people could be badly injured or even killed so I think it might be better if we kept the people safe.

I heard that someone got electrocuted by a live wire and they died that could happen to anyone that enters into the cbd the army should continue to keep the cbd cornered even if protesters are merging to get in to come in they shouldn’t be aloud in the cbd another earthquake could happen while they are in the cbd if they are aloud to be let in .
I think that unless buisness owners feel that they want to risk there lifes for the sake of a few quid that they should let the CD get on with there job and make a claim to acc to save time and possibally lifes.
ReplyDeletei think that buisness owner should only be aloud to collect there stock only if the building is strong enough to whithstand a 3.0-5.0 magnetude earthquake and if not the person should be suppervised and have scaffolding around it to make it safe plus the grand chanceler should pulled down before any body enters the cordon making it safer
ReplyDeletei think that they should becuase there is alot of valuable items in there such as computers clothing and lots lots more it also depends on the buseness such as if you had a stationary buseness or such as if you had a electronics buseness you would need to get in becuase there is some very expensive items so thats my reasons so far
ReplyDeleteBY HARRY .I think that they should be allowed into the buildings that are either still standing or absolutely smashed so nothing can fall on them but if they did go in they would be going in at their own risk .Also the people should be able to ask the professionals to go and collect whatever valuables the can find to bring out so the people can get thei stuff without getting hurt .
ReplyDeletei think they should be able to go to there business to retrive stock, valuables and family treasures etc. as well as seeing if there business is okay and stock or if they need to open up there shop somewhere else and buy more stock. but only with an offical. it could save insurance companys hundreds and thousands even millions.
ReplyDeleteI think they should be allowed so they can get the money that they made. Also to get some stock out of they building so if they get a temporary location they will have something to sell. People who have family members lost from the earthquake need to get there wills and some lawyers can’t get in to there offices.
