Bullying is part of school culture. Every year there are children traumatized through systematic bullying attacks. Should families follow the precedent set in Australia and sue the schools involved or are there other solutions?
I dont neccesarily think that it is the schools fault for having overly agressive children at their school and they shouldn't be sued $500'000 just for one child abusing another kid. But on the other hand if this was happening to me i would think that it would be perfectley fair to sue the school for not providing a safe school and education environment. So you would have had to of had to have had the same experience that the parents had had to completely understand why they would want to sue the school. Therefore i think that would should sue the school if this is happening but there are other long term solutions.
In my opinion the school should not be sued.I think the police need to get involved. The bully needs to be taught once and for all that bullying is not acceptable in any form.It is also up to the head of the school and the bullies parents to communicate and be filled in on the situation at all times. The bullies parents need to take some responsibilty for the childs actions before the bullying gets out of hand.I think there are more effective ways to handle the situation than to sue the school. Communication is a two way street!
my opinion is that i think the parents should have rights to sue a school because the students should know better than to bully someone they would not like it if they got bullyed even i used to get bullyied at my old school and they said that just to suck it up but there are 2 sides to every story like because the parents could presure the kids to act this way fighting which causes strees to the kids to act this way and it could be something the kid said to upset the other kid to bully him

I think the school should be sued because the people that go to the school are the schools responsability to make sure they dont get into any trouble. If I were the princable of that school I woul definitlt kick them out. But on the other hand they shouldn't because its sort of a punishment enough putting bad repputation on the school and the population of the school might decrese because of bullying. It would definitly not be one of the most highlighted schools you would want to go to.
in my opinion i think that parents should not have the right to sue the schools but what i think is that they could fine the school a decent amount of money. I think the head master of the school should attempt to sort out the problems but if thats not possible then get the police involed because the situation such as slaming someones name in a toilet door is completely unexpectable for anyone and should ot be done in any circumstances. abuse is not the answer if there is a roblem that is causing you to bully then go and tell someone because bullying others is not the answer. The bullies parents need to take some responsibility in these sort of situations and if they cant handle it then they need to get help. DONT TAKE YOUR ANGER OUT ON OTHER PEOPLE. THERE IS NO NEED FOR BULLYING.
i dont think that the school should be sued. i think that the child should have to do community service or juvinile detention.it isnt the schools fault that the student cant handle them selves. the bully needs to learn that it is unacceptable
i think that the school should not be sued because the perints do not have the right to sue them.that all i hafto say because i can't think of ene thing els
I think the School shouldnt get sued $500,000 but they should make the bully do some other course so he can learn how mean it is and he will hopefully stop, because the bully could get bullied at home so he/she takes it out at people at school so they need to do a course so they can control that anger or they could let the police deal with him/her so then they will defiantly learn a lesson
i think that if you are being bullied: being called names but not being physically hurt should be sorted out with the principle/ head of school.if bullying continues, then matters should be taken more seriously and then be sorted out between the victim, the bullier, the parents and the principle/head of the school.
if any bullies start actually hurting someone, then it needs to be sorted out instantly with their family and the principle because it is NOT acceptable. if it continues then the parents should be able to fine/sue the school for not protecting the student after the had already talked/ told off the bullier.
The school needs to provide the students with a safe learning environment. the bully knows better than to bully someone, so the bullies parents should be informed.
if the bully continues to hurt other people aswell as the first person then the bully should be talken to and probably kicked out.
I don’t think families should sue schools just because of one bully. I know schools are supposed to be safe and they could be if schools had an anti-bullying system and have anger management courses for the bullies to take. And the courses should be compulsory. But if the bullying was so bad that they had physical scaring like broken bones, bruises or bleeding then I think they should think about suing the schools because the schools should be able to protect students any way they can. Potentially words can scar a person just as much as physical pain so I do think any type of bullying should have enough reason to sue any bullies family $50,000.
I think that the families should sue because the schools are meant to give a safe environment for children to learn. I don’t think there is not another solution because it’s the schools fault they should have been able to prevent this by having anti-bullying group and make it mandatory for known bullies or anger management.
I think the school should not be sued. But I think that what the bully’s did to the other child was totally unacceptable, so they should do community work in their on time and be fined a fair amount of money to pay the bashed girls family.
I also think that the parents had a right to sue the school, because the school should have been protecting the girl to create a safe learning environment for students.
BBYY JJAACCKK UUPPSSTTOONN i think that the problem is that the bullies that are bullying the children are being bullyed themselves and they are just finding a way to lash out and they are building up all the anger and then lashing out by using there fists and the people being bullied are doing the some and i think that the parents should not sue the school i think that they should sit down with the principal and discuss what is going wrong BBYY JJAACCKK UUPPSSTTOONN
I think that this is ridiculous and the pupil that was bullied should look at other options instead of suing the school for SO much money. The student does have the right to speak out for her/himself but this is taking it too far. Suing the school isn’t going to solve anything apart from make the victim richer. The family of the victim need to sort this out with the school and possibly the police but not in a court room with lawyers battling it out and not solving anything which is costing a lot of the taxpayer’s money and diminishing the school’s reputation. If this case is successful then soon everyone can sue a school and there will be no limit. Yes, the pupil is in the care of the school on school times/property and so it is partly the schools fault for not interfering and setting such a weak punishment for the attackers. Three days suspension!? As if that’s going to solve anything! This means that the school needs to do at least something to the victim and offer some type of compensation/counselling but NOT on such a big scale as $500,000. They need to resort to other solutions like contacting the police and letting the attackers maybe put something back into the community with community service or the attackers should be suspended from school which is also another option if that is the school policy. For both parties the school also needs to offer school counselling.
For example in America people can sue McDonalds for not having lettuce in their burger and Australia is catching up with America’s farce. To make my point clear, I believe that there ARE other options instead of suing and makes such a big hassle for the family, the victim, the school and the courts which could be solving more important matters!
If a pupil is being bullied and it is a minor case they must tell the bully off and let him/her know that its not ok. If bullying is more severe such as this case, where bullying was taken to the next level of violence. I beleive that parents have the right to sue the school that thier child has been bullied at. I beleive this because the school should have been ready to protect and make a pupil feel secure and safe.
Bullying is not acceptable, it is wrong and no one should have to put up with such a traumatic event in thier lives. Sadly lots of people do, and that is the way of life =(
there raelly should not be a ban because bullieing is apart of school mabee not all schools but most of them and if she does even win in coart 500,000 dollars is overriacting
Bullying is a part of nature, no one can stop it but lots can help and even prevent it. When enrolled in a school, it’s the schools job is to protect the student. If serious harm comes to the pupil and the school could have stopped it from happening the parent or caregiver has every right to sue the school. Yet if the school has no knowledge of anything then it is not really their fault. If regular bully attacks are occurring and someone gets critically hurt, the school needs to track down the people responsible and suspend them for over a week depending on how bad the offence. In the time that they are off, they need to be given a bunch of awful jobs around the community and work as if they are a prisoner – under a watchful eye of a security person. That way the parent/caregiver of the victim will be satisfied with the punishment and they will believe that the attacker is learning their lesson. The offender will also learn appropriate skills for the future and hopefully they would have learnt to not make the same mistakes again. If the message gets across that the punishment for bullying is really bad then hopefully the amount of students being bullied will decrease immensely.
Saskia P.S. Bullying is like driving drunk, you always get caught and it a really bad offence.
Bullying is not the best way to sort things out. I believed that you should talk through these problems and solve this in a less argresive manor. Suing a school for so much money is solving a whole lot of nothing, you might only be making one family richer. There are times when you get so angry that you just want to do what ever you can to get revenge. You can solve things the easy way(suing) or the right way! Councilling and personal help is needed in these situations.
I think it is unreasonable for parents to be sueing schools because public schools get their funding from the government and the government get their funding from taxes so technically we would be paying for our own compensation and the government have more important things to spend money on and no ammount of money is going to suddenly stop bullying problembs for any student and by now schools in new zealand should have a deciant anti bullying campaign and it shouldn't be getting so bad that parents are taking it to court if it does get that bad then the student should transfer to another school because no one deserves to be going to a school where they're getting that badly bullied
i think that it was right to sue the school money but maybe not 500,000 because schools are suppost to be safe learning areas where children are prepared for later life but when bullies come along and pick on people it might effect the kids results later in life so a good solution would to either home school all bullies or start some sort antibullying progam to help kids get through any problems that could be the cause of bullying.
I think they should sue the schools because while children are at school they are the schools responsbility and if something happens to them it is the schools fault. Ecspesially if the child gets their head slammed into a toilet door. We can't stop bullying but we can give them punishments and I think that if a child is bullied so it is more like abuse the parents of that child can decide the punishment for the bullys and the school can make the final decision. Bullys can some times be cured by conciling. But maybe teachers can look into the background of the bully you know like seeing if he does these things at home or not and maybe his/ her parents can help sort something out.
I dont think the schools should be sued because its not actually the schools fault its the bullies. its for the parents to bring their children up the right way.
Nobody can stop bullying it happens all the time and not just at schools. But if they are doing it at school they need to get help to stop bullying because they will keep on doing it even when they are adults. Which would not be good for any body. Which makes it very important to stop them now while we can do something before it's too late. I don't think bullying is okay the schools should get sued. But I don't think they should get fined $500,000. They could give the schools that have lots of bully's some money to send them to an anti bullying courses.
aLsO slamming a head in a toliet door should get the police involed, i also think that the school principle should check out the background of the bully because it com come from a abusive family, or a acoholic family etc ect.lIkE sAsKiA SaId BuLlIng Is li\ke drink driving you always get caught
