  2. I think it wasnt a good comment to say because it was sexist and even if he beleived it was true he should have just kept it to himself. He should lose his job because of the bad reputation he has made for EMA and himself and not all women stay home to look after children a lot of women work full days so therefore he should either be sacked or resign.

  3. I think he should be sacked becaue his commetns were extremley sexist.
He has absaloutly no right to say that women have more sick day than men just because they have a monthly issue.
And how does he know thats why women are having more sick leave than men.
Alasdair Thomson has caused many people to argue this point including him getting death notes and protesting.
Therefore he should not have state this point even if he believes its true.

  4. i think he should be sacked because some woman dont have strong immune systems and can easily get sick.
he didnt have any right to say that and it is not really his buisness to say that or to know that.
some men have more sick day than woman.
and some woman dont ever have days off unless they absolutly have to.
SO HE DIDNT REALLY HAVE ANY RIGHT TO SAY THAT

  5. I think that he should be sacked.
He had no right to say those things about women.
Women can't help them selves having periods and they might have to look after sick children while they are not acctually sick themselves. And the comment was sexist and above all outragious. He shouldnt be alowed to keep his job. plus his comments have made unecessary arguements and protesting.
    He indeed should be sacked.
(this is just out of curiosity)
Didn't his mother ever teach hime that if you don't have anything nice to say dont say it?
    I think not!!!

I think that he should be sacked because he made sexist comments. Even if he extemely believed that this was the case he should of just not said anything and he would be carrying on with his work not worrying about other peoples. Just because women have more sick days than men who cares they do there work they get paid what they were offered from the start.

  7. I don't think that he should be sacked because we all make mistakes and regret the things that we might have said. I don't think that he should have said what he said. When the TVNZ guy asked his manager it turned out that the guys had had more days off than the girls. His apologies should have had as much media attention as his comments.

  8. I think he should be sacked because his comments were really sexist, and women can't help it that they get their periods, my dad works with alot of women and he has never known one of them to take time of due to periods, but women have got to remember that the man flu comments could also be viewed as sexist.

  12. I think that mister Thomson should be sacked because the comment he had made was sexist and if that happens in this time and age I could make little kids think that it is ok. Even if he did apologies it had already Been said so it's not like he can take back I think that someone should sue him because it is a very insolting comment.

I think that Alastair Thompson should not be sacked because he maybe was thinking from his point of view witch may have been that women have more sick days than men and that they are sick because of period pains is going a bit over the top because they can not help it because it happens to every woman around the world I think that he should go on to the news and say that he is sorry to all the woman around the world for saying such rude comments and it all depends on there contract

  14. I think that he should be sacked because no one will like him because lots of woman will want to get revenge and will probably go on strike or quit there job. There should be alot of people sewing him because his comment on woman was extremely sexist because nz was one of the first countries to let woman vote then suddenly alastdair Thompson says that woman have more sick leaves Pretty stupid really

  15. Well, I believe that these comments are very bad to be said by a CEO of the biggest business association in New Zealand and should conclude with a sacking of his position but NOT out of his current company. A lot of New Zealand’s population is made up by female employees and I would think that a lot of them think that these comments are not correct but are not discriminating so the sacking should be taken lightly. What I mean by this is that he should be sacked from his current position but not the company. As a CEO it is a bad reputation for the company to say such comments and so he should be offered a job that is not as big as a CEO or manager which I think will also be better for him. He doesn’t really deserve a complete sacking so stripping him for the position of CEO will be enough. But in saying that, these comments have outraged men as well with them protesting amongst the woman. It made international headlines, and he knew in the back of his mind that there would be an outcry and as simply as your parents say, “Think before you say”.

The survey that he refers too does not have ANY evidence that woman take time off work because of periods so why he came to this conclusion still baffles me, meaning that his statement could be downright wrong. To sum up I believe that he should be kept in EMA but not as CEO but as an employee in a lower rank. It is his entire fault and to say remarks about woman’s periods is not the right thing to mention on radio/media.

    Nick!!! :D

I think that he should be sacked because his comment was extremely offensive and sexist. Even if he did continue to work he would only have men because no women would want to work for him. Anyway there is actually no evidence concluding that women take much more sick days than men, only 1.6 days. I dont think that his apologies mean anything because he obviously thinks that its true and he is just trying to save his job

  17. In my opinion Alasdair Thomsons comments were unacceptable and sexist. He should be sacked.By saying what he did I think he proved he is the wrong person for the job.In a position that has so much power a considerate person needs to be given the job.If he did keep working people will only continue to hate him more!Because there is no evidence of what he has said he cannot back himself up if it comes to it.Him being CEO he has extremely embarrassed himself and EMA. He should be ashamed of his actions. I agree with Mr Spencer when he said he only apologised to save himself and his job. His comments have annoyed both men and women, and men are even disagreeing with him which proves that what Alasdair has said is wrong!Women may take days off for personal issues or to even look after the kids which belong to the men aswell! If women are doing an equally good job as the men they deserve to be payed and treated the same. He needs to think before he speaks and realise his actions affect others aswell!

I think the comments that Alasdair Thomson made are rude, sexist and offensive. Although it is true that some women may take a monthly sick leave but others do take, days off because they are sick or have to look after children. I do not think it was very professional to say what he said. He should be sacked because from saying what he said, it angered both men and women who do not believe what he said was right. And I do not understand how anyone could believe him because he had no actual facts to support his accusation. I think he has simply forgotten something anyone is taught as a child “think before you speak” or “if you can say anything nice don’t say it at all”

  19. I do not think he should be sacked. I think he just spoke in such a way that his message sounded bad. When the media got involved later, the whole story blew up from what was his original message. His original message was that “employers” feel that women take more sick days than men and that is why they feel that women should not be paid as much as men. He did actually say that in his own opinion women should be paid the same as men.

  20. My opinion is that Mr. thompson should be sacked because his comment was a inapproprate and unacceptable to be saying on live radio. This comment is disgusting and sexist. This shows he is not right for the job he has a big responsibility on his shoulders and he should,nt going around spouting out comments like this. It is offensive to females and makes him look like he is being rude and hateful towards the hard times that females face. He should definitely be sacked!!

In my opinion I think that Alasdair Thompson should be sacked out of his current position of CEO because what he said is outrageous and is not acceptable because women would take more sick days because they have to look after children (i suspect). His comment has caused an outrage and his position should be givin to someone who would not take all the power for granted. ??? This is a hard topic ??? It is a really sexist thing for someone to say because some women were interveiwed and none of them had ever taken sick days because of monthly issues. His comment has been proved wrong (I think) and he has no right to say such a thing...

...sorry if my comment repeats everything and makes no sense... >.< :P

  23. It's not fair that Alasdair can make comments like that about women and still keep his job he shouldn't be in a position where he can influence weges when he has that kind of veiw about women. New Zealand was the first country in the world that allowed women to vote yet we employ people who are so sexist that they make comments that women have "monthly sick leave" in nationwide media confrences when it has been proven in surveys that women don't.

  25. well um i think that if he wants to study something like that then he can because how are we suppost to discver new things if we don't look for them or study them and its not against the law or anything to research this so why should he be prosecuted well he shoudn't because just because somepeople don't like it .well they can toughen up because it doesn't even effect their lives so instead of wasting time they may as well get on with life

  26. Thomson should be sacked immediately with out any confrontation. He wrongly accused women for something that was proven wrong. I, being a female believe that women have as much rights to anything as men do. We have the same capabilities and we can be better than men at lots of things. We live in the twenty-first century for goodness sakes! Men and women should equal!
If his theory were true then women would spend on average ten days more off, approximately, than men. But since they only spend one point six days more, then what are men doing all those days they take sick leave? I personally can’t understand it can you?

Some people will believe that since he apologised it makes everything all right. I think the opposite because he only apologised because his reputation and his job was on the line.

People have rights to say their opinions but if they involve anyone else in a bad way then they should keep it to their selves or forget it. Many persons, mostly women, would have been deeply offended by what he said. I think that there are much worse things than losing your job so he should be grateful it is only his job and not something that is more important. If they don’t sack him then he and The EMA won’t be the most popular people walking on the streets.

  27. In my opinion Mr. Thompson should be sacked from his currant position as CEO because of the sexist comment he stated on live radio you should not be able to make allegations like that and get away with it. I think he was stupid to say that and he has got it completely wrong it's ok if he believes that but he should have kept it to himself not go say it on live radio it was a dumb thing to do he should defiantly get sacked.

  28. Mr Thompson shopuld be sacked immediately from his position as CEO of the EMA. Sexiist is the only way to describe what he has done to the women of this company. Women are just as good at doing specific jobs as men. It is just that people think that because their weaker etc.It is not the right way to treat employees. Other wise you are asking them to quite and move on in their carrer, which in this day and age is not good to interview applicants, sort out pay and teach them how to do a job.
It is not the right thing to do. What if the shoe was on the other foot.
