2011 Current Events 13

An alarming number of young people are now viewing children as potential income and a means to live on. What can we do as a society to change this perception for many of our most at risk members of our community.

  1. We can offer help to those who really need it and give the children actual items not money so even if their parents were doing this then they wouldn't go without. We could give them something to be depended on. Like offer jobs to them that they'd like to do. Help them at primary school instead of waiting further on in high school.

  2. i think that it's apauling to see parents not looking after there own flesh and blood. who knows what the parents are spending the wellfare money, they could be spending it on marajuana or cocane.to stop teenagers not cearing for there kids is that the could send the kids to a foster home and send the parents to a counceler to sort out there problem and if they are using the money for drugs they could be sent supermarket vouches and go for some help to sort out there drug problem

  4. I think that the young boys who have that aspiration in life should be getting taught by people like the woman from the artical about other career choices that are available and the money that is being wasted on people who are miss using benefits should be spent on education and uni for the kids so they can get qualifications and help our country by pursuing careers like doctors and areas of labour shortage

  5. i think that the goverment should give the familys that are like that should be given less money and some food and then some one could be paid to deliver the food and they could write up a list o items they need and could, spend the money on bills and other needs. then when the kids grow up they will know that its not very easy living that type of lifestyle.

  6. its pretty sad how they do that i dont think that the goverment should even help them if they are going to do that they should help them selves outthe parents should help them a tiny bit so they are helping them selves out more than the parents are .if they get money they should spend it wisely if they cant then they should get someone to help them not fully just a little bit

  7. I think that it is pretty sad that the boys have no interest to go far in life but simply waste it other the years making babies, and they would just make a new life for no real reason except an income. I also think that as a community we should help people who have this mindset.

  8. I think they should'nt get money they should either get supermarket, clothes and toy vouchers or get food, toys and clothes sent to them every week because we dont know who or what they are spending the money on. that persons freinds might realize that its not a very good source of income and stay at school and then get a job because its a better source of money and they will feel better about themselves because they have earnt it.

  9. Is this our future? That is what I think when reading this appalling article. These young people think that it is OK for money to be put in front of children. These people don’t want children; they only want money and no work. I think a few ways of changing this behaviour is for immediately putting down the rate of money that the adult can receive for benefits such as “caring” for a child with no income and if they are a solo parent. This will mean that these benefits are less appealing and encourages the solo mother/father to work because it will be the only source of income. These people are contributing nothing to our society when they are on the dole, but only costing the taxpayers heaps of money from all their benefits that they are receiving. You can’t change these people, but you can change the law. These people know how to use the welfare system to their advantage in every aspect, so tougher laws NEED to be in place. Another way of changing what these people are doing, is to make them try out for work and if they can’t find work then a penalty of some sort should be in place and then you can put them on a benefit, but if they do find work then this is better for the whole country and the individual because they will get more money and be happy. These people receive all kinds of benefits like being a solo-parent, and this needs to stop because too much money is being wasted. Some children are born purely for the money/benefit and doesn’t even get cared for because it is spent on other things than for the child and its welfare/education/future!

  10. In my opinion the people on the benefit should apply in writing and specifically list the items they need the money to be spent on, and the organisers send them the items on their list. This way everyone can be assured the money will not be spent on alcohol, drugs or cigarettes. If the government cut everybody off the benefits the children will suffer.

  11. I think that they need to get a better education, and someone to teach them how to be a good parent. Being a parent is a big responsibility! Parents need to be good role models for their kids to look up to. At such a young age can you realy make a decision that big? Eventually you might want to go on holiday but you will have kids so it will cost more and you will not have enough money. Having kids is a big responsibility.

  12. Boys should definitly make more effort in education. But i really think if females would like to excel they should. And if boys simply marry girls to get the babies and wealth then the women should decide if they want to do this.

If you get what i mean XD Sorry confuzzling.

  13. boys should put more effort into their education rather than worrying about making girls pregnant. the people who need the money should be made to write a list of what they need the money for so that they cannot spend t on drugs and alchol. we can offer help to those who really need it and not give the children money the government should buy the children the items that they need and nothing else.

  14. In my opinion they should get people on benefits to write some sort of list of what they need every week, fortnight, month so they can take them what they need so people will not be able to use the system Or they could make some sort of card so they could get what they need but it what work on certain thing that cause problems in New Zealand.

  15. parents who dont care for their kid(s) needs should not be allowed to have children because it is not fair to teach kids that drugs and alchohol are the only way to go in life they need better than that its not fair especially when welfare centres give you a chance to help your kids and you go spend the money they give you on something else. My mum has had personal experiences up in otara teaching ,she told me that the children used to come to school hungry and covered in cigarette burns and bruises so she spent all day feeding them and putting cream on their burns .My point is that parents who dont care for their kids dont deserve them.

  16. this is a really hard topic...

i think that the boys that are doing this should have to write to the benefit manager people and write a list of the stuff that they need because they could be getting the money and spending it on alcahol/drugs. they should not be teaching their kids that drugs is the only way to get through life. they are having kids just to get the money...

  17. its called child support, not go buy drugs money. and that the should just get vouchers or the food and other stuff deliverd to them (write a list about what they want and some one goes and buys it for them and get it deliverd to their door). or that if the people who do that then they should get their children taken of them until they prove that they can go with out drugs and stuff.

  18. We as a society need to give stricter learning at high schools and make sure that students get that it is wrong to use children to get money. Although it won’t stop everybody it will prevent a fair amount.
The money that is given needs have some sort of tracking system, so the government will know when you have used it wisely and when you have not. If the government sees that you have been using the money for inappropriate or personal reasons they will fine you or give you less money each time.
Also, high schools need to give the impression that not having a job and not getting an income is not an option.

If this is done then there will hopefully be more people to help in the society and heaps of children’s lives will be a whole lot better.

  19. In my opinion I think the people on benefits should have to write down a list of food for the government to buy. or the government could give the people on benefits some sort of rashin books like they had in the war so that way they would either get what they need of have a limit what to get. but if they get rashin book or food and clothing brought for them they wouldn’t be able to afford holidays and presents for birthdays and Christmas.

  20. In my opinion I think they should start a new system where they don't give them money, they give them what the need, they could get the people on benifits to write a list of what they need. Or they could give them a card with money and doesn't accept certain things that are problems in New Zealand I thing any of those ideas would be good.
